THE TOWN OF ASHLAND

Nestled in the Rogue Valley at the base of Mt. Ashland–and just minutes away from the ski area–is the town of Ashland. Known for its award-winning Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Ashland has a thriving culinary scene with over 100 restaurants, talented chefs and innovative restaurateurs who incorporate produce and products from local farmers and food artisans. Lithia Park, located adjacent the downtown ‘Plaza,’ is a world-class urban park with open grassy fields, lovely landscaping, and miles upon miles of hiking and running trails.

MT. ASHLAND’S HISTORY

The ski area and ski lodge were constructed in 1963. The ski area opened to the public on January 11, 1964. The original dirt road to and from Ashland was one way, so skiing enthusiasts had to adhere to the rule of uphill-only in the morning and downhill-only in the afternoon. The ski area went through a variety of owners until 1992 when the community invested in the mountain and created the 501(c)3 nonprofit Mt. Ashland Association. Since then the Association has owned and operated Mt. Ashland “to provide and promote a healthy quality experience in an alpine environment.”
