Skiing and snowboarding is so fun! Life in the mountains, hanging out with family and friends, building and honing new skills, enjoying amazing views. No question – it’s a great lifestyle. So how to get there? Well, if you’re just getting started skiing or snowboarding—or want to take your skills to the next level—taking a lesson is a great way to make it happen. With a little help from one of our top-notch instructors, you’ll be out enjoying our intermediate to advanced terrain in no time! Scroll down to learn more – and GET STOKED!
All lessons can be reserved online 48 hours in advance and walk-ins are available upon instructor availability.

2024-2025 Group Lesson Rates
Group Lessons for Children aged 4 to 6
Snow Scooters $55
- For First time or Beginner ability levels
- Programs offered 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm weekends and holidays
- Lift tickets and rental equipment are not included. Child (ages 0-6) lift tickets are free. Rental equipment may be added to a lesson package at the time of purchase at a 20% discount.
- To check in for your lessons and receive your ticket(s), please arrive at the ticket desk in the main Karen and Sid DeBoer Lodge.
- Please arrive at least 1 hour prior to your lesson to allow time to wait in line for tickets and rentals, receive and put on your rental equipment (if applicable) and to meet in the basement.
- Once your Snow Scooter has used the restroom and is ready for their lesson with gear on, the Snow Scooter drop/off pickup location can be found by taking a right at the bottom of the stairs in the basement (away from the rental area).
- Please make sure your child is toilet trained and knows how to use the restroom by themselves with all their new winter clothing on. Practicing at home will help our Scooters have fun while they are with us.
- Age requirements and toilet training are very important for your child’s first mountain experience. We reserve the right to deny a lesson to any guest who does not meet those requirements. Thank you for your cooperation.
Group Lessons for Children aged 7 to 12
Ridge Runners $55
- For First time or Beginner ability levels
- Programs offered 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm weekends and holidays

Lessons for Guests aged 13 and Up
The Mt. Ashland Ski School instructors are ready to help you take your performance to the next level!
Two Hour Group Lesson – $45
- For First time or Beginner ability levels
- Does not include lift ticket or rental equipment. Sonnet lift tickets or rental equipment may be added to a lesson package at the time of purchase at a 20% discount.
- Lessons available starting at 10 am and 1 pm every day we are open.
- To check in for your lessons and receive your ticket(s), please arrive at the ticket desk in the main Karen and Sid DeBoer Lodge.
- Please arrive at least 1 hour prior to your lesson to allow time to wait in line for tickets, rent gear and have it sized correctly and be relaxed and ready to learn.
- Once you are ready for your lesson with gear on you can check-in at the Learning Center located lookers left at the bottom of Sonnet ski run. You can find a map here to help guide you.
9 Week Freeride Program
This program will focus on the fundamentals and skills needed for advanced freeride techniques, including navigating steep chutes, trees, moguls, and catching air.
9 Week Freeride Program – $349
- For Intermediate to Advanced Skiiers and Snowboarders
- Ages 8-17
- Does not include lift ticket or rental equipment.
- Saturdays January 18th – March 15th, 2025 from 1pm – 4pm.
This is NOT a beginner/novice learn-to-ski-and-ride program. Participants must already demonstrate the ability to turn and control their speed on intermediate to advanced terrain (mostly parallel turns for skiers and linked turns for snowboarders) and demonstrate a hockey stop. They also must be able to ride a chair lift by themselves.

Private Lessons
We offer private lessons for downhill skiing, telemark skiing, and snowboarding.
For personalized, one-on-one instruction, Mt. Ashland offers private lessons for ages 4 and above, for all abilities. You can add additional skiers or riders of similar ability level to your private lesson. It is a great way for a family to learn together.
Mt. Ashland Racing Association
The Mt. Ashland Racing Association is a separate non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the fundamental skills of skiers of all ages, and developing well rounded individuals with a life long love for the sport of skiing and competition. MARA offers opportunities for racers (and future racers) of all ages to advance their skills in a supportive environment.
